**Del archivo a la comunidad** was a three-day academic and community-engagement event held in Lambayeque, Peru, bringing together researchers from Peru and Germany to discuss historical, linguistic, archaeological, and ethnographic materials related to Mochica language and culture and northern Peru preserved in archival and museum collections, particularly in Berlin.

The academic programme created a space for international collaboration and exchange between researchers working with historical collections and Peruvian scholars and specialists, connecting archival research conducted in Europe with research, cultural heritage, and local knowledge in Peru. Academic presentations and discussions were complemented by an exhibition of historical linguistic and ethnographic materials, making archival sources accessible beyond their repositories and placing them in dialogue with the region from which they originated.

A central objective of the event was to move **from the archive to the community**. Participatory activities included **“Messages to Berlin” (Mensajes para Berlín)**, through which participants reflected on the significance of historical materials held in Berlin and communicated their perspectives back to the institutions preserving them. The programme also included a **traditional gourd-carving (mate burilado) workshop**, connecting archival and cultural heritage with contemporary artistic practice, and a **literary creation workshop**, encouraging creative engagement with local history, language, and cultural memory.

By combining international academic collaboration, archival research, public dissemination, artistic practice, and community participation, *Del archivo a la comunidad* sought to establish a two-way dialogue between researchers, archival institutions, and communities in northern Peru, and to explore ways in which historical collections can be reconnected with the places and people to whose cultural and linguistic heritage they belong.
