Curriculum
Eija Meriläinen is a postdoctoral researcher, affiliated with the Department of Human Geography at Örebro University (Sweden), University College London (United Kingdom) and Hanken School of Economics (Finland). She studies (1) diverse urban spaces, from ‘shrinking’ municipalities in sparsely populated regions to the socio-spatial margins of the metropolis, and (2) disasters, crises, and other disruptions within and across these spaces. Housing is one of her key research topics.
Ongoin independent research projects focused on Northern Finland:
• ‘Making home in the mono-industrial urban region’ (2022—2026)
• ‘Rights to/of the forest in climate change related disaster governance in the Barents region’ (2019—2025)
