Abstract

The aim is to develop inclusive German language teaching for Finns. The starting point is that the linguistic expression of equality varies from language to language and culture to culture. German is a gendered language with a grammatical gender: der Mann “man”, die Frau “woman”, das Kind “child”, whereas Finnish does not have gender as a grammatical category. Expressing the third gender in German poses several problems both to German speakers and learners.
