Abstract

Humanitarian Operations (HOs), aimed at minimizing the impact of disasters, have synergies and tradeoffs with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. For example, the affected region’s poverty index (SDG 1) may increase due to climate-related disasters (SDG 13), requiring more HOs. If HOs last long, it may lead to the region’s dependency on aid, hampering its economic growth (SDG 8). This research aims to map and analyze the interconnections between the SDGs and HOs. To achieve this goal, the research is grounded in a systematic literature review to analyze the state of the art between the topics (SDGs and HOs), proposing a taxonomy and a future research agenda. We contribute to the academic by mapping and analyzing the interconnections between SDGs and HOs.
