Socially Responsible Procurement Practices of Cooperatives in Indonesian Coffee Supply Chains

This study examines how four Indonesian coffee cooperatives build and mobilise
social capital to implement socially responsible procurement (SRP) with smallholder farmers. Drawing on Social Capital Theory, the paper analyses structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions alongside bonding, bridging, and linking functions across cases. Findings show that SRP is not a formal policy but an emergent property of accumulated social capital. The alignment of all three functional types predicts SRP depth and durability.
