The Mochica Language: From a Language of Communication to Cultural Heritage. Muchik as Regional Historical and Cultural Heritage

Invited talk delivered as part of the Academic and Cultural Conference “Muchik as Regional Historical and Cultural Heritage”, organized by the Institución Educativa Emblemática Karl Weiss in Chiclayo on the occasion of its 205th anniversary. The presentation examined the historical trajectory of the Mochica language, from its role as a language of communication in northern Peru to its contemporary significance as part of the region’s linguistic, historical, and cultural heritage. It also addressed the importance of historical linguistic research, education, and the transmission of knowledge to younger generations for reconnecting with Mochica cultural heritage.
