Sammanfattning
In this chapter, we introduce non-anthropocentric approaches and trouble the fundamental premises of economic growth and anthropocentrism underlying most climate and sustainable governance research in MOS. Specifically, we engage with the concept ‘more-than-human,’ which poses three crucial challenges that must be addressed if we are to respond to the ecological crises we currently face. We call these three challenges veils as they prevent us from observing human-Earth power relations in environmental and climate governance practices. These veils are: 1. veil of the critique of neoliberalism, 2. veil of abstract universality, and 3. veil of linearity. These veils frame the debates on what solutions are possible and what actions are considered appropriate for addressing the crisis. Thus, we contend that it is time to move toward more-than-human organizing that respects the planetary web of life and that allows us to build an economy for a living world.
